RAM analysis to support maintenance decision-making considering environmental sustainability

Due to current social, environmental, and regulatory pressures, modern industries are faced with the challenge of considering sustainability in their decision-making. This has caused rising interest in the field of sustainable development from an industrial perspective. Particularly, maintenance activities have been identified as a considerable contributor to environmental sustainability aspects. This paper presents a simulation methodology, using Reliability, Availability, Maintainability analysis, though Monte-Carlo simulation, that aims to sup-port decision-making considering environmental sustainability. Moreover, this methodology allows for the implementation of criticality-based decision-making. Through the application of the methodology in a hypothetical case study, we found that it can be useful in maintenance decision-making considering environmental sustainability improvements and economic tradeoffs.
