A radiation-free approach to obtain high-quality 3D anatomical reconstructions holds promise to improve in-clinic presentation of patient anatomy, which is critical for monitoring disease or surgical progression.
Nasal endoscopy provides the means and motivation to compute 3D models with high fidelity to the intricate anatomy of sinus cavities.
Consequently, a vision-based method that attains this objective can provide readily-accessible and quantitative assistance for surgeons in the clinic and operating room.
Such method would enable cross-sectional and longitudinal comparisons, and target the development of surgical navigation systems.
This work follows an open research line and extends the assessment of the surface reconstruction pipeline presented by Liu et al. in [1].
We evaluate this method in providing precise reconstructions for whole sinus cavities from cadaveric models, under exploratory and surgical endoscopic protocols.
The obtained sinus surface models show completeness and satisfactory agreement with observed anatomy, in pre- and intra-operative settings.
