Los agentes vasoactivos son la piedra angular en el tratamiento del sangrado digestivo alto variceal, con el cual se busca reducir presión portal y varicosa para controlar la hemorragia. Los estudios reportados, no aportan conclusiones firmes sobre la superioridad de una vasoactivos frente a otro y su elección es con base al criterio médico y al recurso local. Se describió la experiencia local del uso de Terlipresina como tratamiento médico farmacológico de pacientes con sangrado digestivo alto de origen variceal. Encontramos que no hay mayores diferencias en cuanto a mortalidad y tiempo de hospitalización en comparación con la literatura reportada, menor resangrado y fracaso en la hemostasia inicial, con mayor control del sangrado y menor incidencia de eventos adversos.
