Este trabajo tiene como propósito identificar los posibles factores asociados a la innovación —medida como el número de patentes de invención— tales como el tamaño de la empresa, porcentaje de empleados con nivel educativo profesional o mayor, el financiamiento por recursos propios de las empresas o de entidades gubernamentales, el ambiente regulador , las fuentes de ideas de innovación y la inversión en actividades de innovación—Investigación y Desarrollo (I&D), adquisición de maquinaria y equipo, transferencia de tecnología y capacitación— en empresas industriales colombianas de los sectores 155, 158, 232, 242 y 252 de la clasificación CIIU, tomando la información suministrada por las Segunda, Tercera y Cuarta Encuestas de Innovación y Desarrollo Tecnológico en Colombia (EDIT). Para la identificación y medición de posibles asociaciones se manejan bases de datos, estructuradas alrededor de las EDIT, las cuales facilitan montar páneles y diseño de regresiones que identifiquen posibles asociaciones.
