Resumen
This document has as a general objective to analyze the performance of the operation of cut, pick up and transportation of sugar cane at the Mayagüez S.A. sugar mill, with the objective of reducing the time of the cycle optimizing time in the supply of cane to the mill; to be able to reach that goal the descriptive investigation, correlation, and analysis, the method is divided in five phases. Which are structured as the functional characteristics and operational parts of the logistical process (suertes-haciendas) to the final destination (molienda-fábrica) taking into consideration time of the mechanized milling process. With this it was identified that there are bottle necks and unproductive time of transport vehicles, in other words the cycle of tractor harvester, transport, and train loading. Finally (i) times are categorized into productive and unproductive, (ii) operations were revised via a concept model system considering its elements, variables, and parameters. (iii) Lastly the operational performance was analyzed with a simulation model focused on the programing of transport of sugar cane (visitas pre-cosecha). The objective is to pinpoint interruptions, increase the number of cycles of transportinto the supply chain and to propose strategies to improve the supply of sugar cane just in time
