Resumen
The following research has as main objective the design of a model for the management of purchases using system dynamics for the supply chain of a textile trading company in Tuluá, Valle.
The system dynamics was select as a tool for structuring and analyzing the company's purchasing management processes in order to obtain feasible and adequate solutions for the specific situation of the organization, because it is a tool for constructing simulation models with holistic approach, which allows to visualize the system as a whole, based on historical data of dependent and independent variables applying statistical elements to determine the parameters of the system of equations, helping to understand the structural causes that cause the behavior of the system.
Additionally, systems dynamics, as a simulation tool, allow proposing scenarios that contribute to understanding and proposing improvements to the problem that the company has in its purchasing management within the supply chain.
A quantitative research methodology is used through the analysis of causes and influences diagrams to structure the model according to the hypotheses and mathematical models proposed.
In the company´s diagnosis found that it has high levels inventory and low turnover of raw material exempt from VAT in the warehouse, which means that the company incurs the purchase of raw material at levels higher than the real needs. Through the System Dynamics, it was possible firstly to project the future situation of the company if the purchases of raw material continue to increase and the rotation remains low,(as is happening at present) making it possible to show that the company would present serious problems about the inventory control of this raw material.
Secondly, by adjusting the variables of the model such as inventory level, stock rotation, inventory days, and sales forecast it was possible to find a solution to the problems presented by the company. Improving the management of purchases of raw material and Management of inventories of the company on these inputs, with an increase in the rotation of the inventory of 43% and a decrease in days of 30% since the first simulation. The development of this research in the company analyzed under the system dynamics tool demonstrates the utility of this type of modeling in medium-sized companies and belonging the textile sector in the search for a structured and feasible solution to the constant problems that can arise which impede the optimal functioning of its distribution chain
