Resumen
The prevalence of infection is high in highly complex hospitals and is one of the most important causes of mortality worldwide. Among the most common in-hospital infections and with one of the highest mortality rates is mechanical ventilation-associated pneumonia (NAVM), a lung infection that develops 48 hours or more after a tracheal intubation process without previous evidence of incubation. microbial of the respiratory tract. Current evidence suggests that NAVM is associated with increased mortality, a prolonged stay in intensive care units, and higher hospitalization costs. The objective of this article is to describe the pathogenic characteristics and risk factors that impact on the mortality and survival of patients who develop NAVM in highly complex hospitals in Latin America in order to facilitate decision-making by the treating physician when time to face this pathology.
