Resumen
Chronic wounds are wounds of any kind that take more than 6 weeks to close. This type of injuries have become a major public health problem that makes use of a large portion of the budget allocation for health resources in the world (Ministry of Health, 2014). Two important groups that suffer from this condition are patients with diabetes and patients with chronic venous disease. For the specific case of diabetes, in the Colombian context, this disease can affect about 4.5 million people, who can suffer chronic wounds in a proportion close to 1.5% to 10% of the population (Júbiz, Márquez, & Burgés, 2012), a potential market of 450,000 people with diabetes wounds; In chronic wounds due to venous disease, those affected are greater, with an estimated up to 900,000 people in Colombia alone, where the frequency of this type of lesions affects about 1 ~ 2% of the population (Beebe-Dimmer, Pfeifer, Engle, & Schottenfeld, 2005). Increasing its prevalence by up to 3% of the total adult population over 65 (Ting Xie, 2018).
