Abstract
A smart city manages to be sustainable in an efficient and innovative way, using ICT tools in its daily activities. This generates positive impacts on the quality of life of its citizens, because by affecting the digital sphere, it enables new development approaches that allow closing socioeconomic gaps in different dimensions. The ability of a city to take full advantage of its digital transformation process largely depends on the economic and social context in which it is located. Therefore, although the use of ICTs increases the quality of life and sustainable development, this cannot be guaranteed if the transformations waste the potential of capital investment and are not applied in optimal conditions.
