Resumen
Acute appendicitis is the main cause of abdominal pain in children, the first cause of death from abdominal sepsis and the most frequent surgical emergency in this population. Nowadays, there is no tool to identify those patients at risk of post-appendectomy complications. Hence, a prognostic prediction model for complications was developed in pediatric patients who have undergone surgery to manage perforated appendicitis. This study was carried out in two phases, the first related to figure out the independent variables predictive of post-surgical complications for perforated appendicitis in children and the second phase, was the development of the model and internal validation. Finally, a model with values was obtained of performance quite acceptable and a high discriminatory capacity greater than 80%, also, the internal validation showed a good extrapolation of the model to other variables because the optimism was low.
