The current paper is a documentary review whose principal goal is to establish the origin of the studies about a family business and how it has changed over time to become what it is today. This bibliographical review analyzes the family protocol as a mediation tool to be applied in those conflicts that may arise among the members of the family who work within an organization. The methodology that has been used is the content analysis with a qualitative approach. This type of review is descriptive; the strategy to search documents was applied in various stages: bibliographical search, organization of data and writing of the article. The paper provides different definitions about family business, family protocols, the types of conflicts the organization faces, as well as the different options the mediation offers to solve them. Finally, the study concludes that the family protocol is the best way to reach good organizational agreements, and this protocol along with some techniques, such as mediation, makes it easier to apply fast and effective solutions to reduce the problems that may have affected the family ties and the financial statements of the company.
