Resumen
Introduction: The report of neuropathic pain has increased in recent years in people living with HIV, which is why HIV neuropathy represents an important burden in public health. Gabapentinoids are widely used drugs in the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain, but there is not clear analgesic benefit in HIV associated neuropathy Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of gabapentinoids in decreasing the intensity of pain in adult patients living with HIV with painful neuropathy. Materials and methods: A narrative exploratory systematic review was prepared through a bibliographic search in health database managers. Four clinical trials (CT) addressed the management of neuropathic pain with gabapentin or pregabalin, however statistical analysis of the primary outcome was only possible in 3 of them. Results and conclusion: There is statistical significance in 2 of the 3 studies for pain improvement in HIV-associated painful neuropathy using gabapentinoids, specifically pregabalin, however more studies are needed to determine its efficacy. These drugs had little chance of adverse effects in this analysis. Discussion: There are few studies evaluating the efficacy of gabapentinoids in the treatment of painful neuropathy associated with HIV, more research is required with protocols that include variables in the management of HIV infection and in the analgesic treatment received, so that better recommendations can be drawn.
