dc.description.abstract | We have all grown from the womb with a mother tongue that lovingly enveloped us; a mother tongue to which we breastfeed and to which we remain connected throughout our lives, because it inspires our deepest emotions and feelings. Speaking with our mother tongue seems like something very simple, like breathing. But it's not like that. According to Patricia Kuhl, babies are "linguistic geniuses" because they are capable of understanding and acquiring any language. We are all born with this ability, but we grow and get used to communicating in one language. This is not bad in itself. The harmful thing is that, for many speakers of native languages, that only language that we should get used to using is not our mother tongue. | |
