“Salir adelante”: Mujeres y migración en una familia de Santa Rosa del Sur, Colombia

Abstract

This article explores the relational nature of migration through the case of a family from Santa Rosa de Sur (Bolívar), in Colombia. It works on the life stories of two generations of women trough the links, resources or obstacles they faced in their migration processes. The information presented is based on an exercise of participant observation and in-depth semi structured interviews. It is concludes with the contributions of a relational perspective in this type of studies, where why to migrate and how to migrate is both an individual choice and a social dynamic, and where gender or family relations show both their rigidities and their flexibility.
