Vigencia y complejidad del fenómeno placebo

Abstract

Después de un análisis crítico del desempeño de los placebos y sus posibles mecanismos de acción, las conclusiones son: primero, el fenómeno placebo es un evento predominante, cuyo papel excede la función del dispositivo que generalmente se le confiere en la literatura científica. Es un evento del cual no es posible deshacerse, ya que representa un aspecto fundamental en todo proceso de intervención; es decir, su actividad es un tema extenso y complejo, por lo que no debe limitarse a un ámbito único de disciplina o profesional, por el contrario, sucede en todos los contextos. En segundo lugar, y en consecuencia, la explicación exacta del fenómeno placebo no se puede obtener mediante la ayuda de un solo sector de la realidad, por el contrario, el mejor enfoque para su comprensión es, aunque esté centrado en el nivel psicológico, del carácter multinivel, ya que su ocurrencia implica aspectos desde el bioquímico hasta el nivel social.

After a critical analysis of the performance of the placebos and their possible mechanismsof action, the conclusions are: first, the phenomenon placebo is a prevailing event, whoserole exceeds the function of device that is usually conferred to it in scientific literature. Itis an event of which it is not possible to get rid, since it represents a fundamental aspect inall process of intervention; that is to say, its activity is extensive and complex subject, thatdoes not have to be restricted to an only scope to discipline or professional, on the con-trary, it happens in all the contexts. Second, and consequently, the exact explanation of thephenomenon placebo cannot be obtained by means of the aid of a single sector of thereality, on the contrary, the best approach to its understanding is, even though centered inthe psychological level, of character multilevel, since its occurrence implies aspects fromthe biochemist to the social level.
