The literature indicates that empathy is related to the functioning of the mirror neuron system, and that a valid neural imprint of this system is the suppression of the Mu wave. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between the suppression of the Mu Wave of a caregive and behavioral (child's signal-caregiver's response) and environmental (attachment-based relational intervention activity [IRBA]) variables associated with the dyadic interaction between the caregiver and the child for whom she is responsible. The IRBA aims to improve the caregiver's sensitivity to the child's signals. The Mu suppression was obtained from the caregiver's electroencephalogram (EEG), the variables associated with the interaction were obtained from the observation and videoencoding of two sessions of the pilot application of the IRBA in which the dyad participated. As a result of the videoencoding, 105 dyadic interaction chains were identified, and the first second of each of these was characterized. Correlation analyzes and multiple linear regression between Mu wave suppression and variables associated with dyadic interaction were performed. The results showed the importance of the behavioral variables associated with the child's signal: Child Interacts with an instrument and Child points with index finger in the generation of Mu wave suppression in the caregiver. It is concluded that, contrary to the behavioral variables associated with the caregiver's response and IRBA activity, there are behavioral variables associated with the child's signal that are related to the suppression of the Mu wave of the caregiver. These results contribute to the knowledge of aspects that can promote the empathetic and sensitive response of caregivers and therefore could be incorporated into the activities of the IRBA or other models of relational intervention to enhance the socio-emotional development of children in early childhood. | |
