Abstract: In order to understand better the techniques used in proton therapy as well as its advantages and its disadvantages, this work focused on the study of the physical, biological and clinical aspects of proton therapy, as well as the production and delivery of the radiation beam. In the first chapter a review of the physics of the interaction of protons with matter is made and focuses especially on their application in proton therapy. The second chapter shows and explains the differents types of the beam delivery system in the clinic treatment, from the delivery through compensators and dispersers to the modulation of the beam energy. The biology and clinic of proton therapy is shown in the third chapter, as well as the existing uncertainties that must be taken into account during treatment. Finally, in the fourth chapter, a review of some clinical treatments with protons and photons is done using different beam delivery techniques and they are compared dosimetrically in order to know their advantages and disadvantages.
