Abstract: The evolutionary disorder of language, through research, has been shown to be a pathology that accounts for the multimodal functionality of the brain in humans (Ullman and Pierpont, 2005), since despite the fact that the main difficulty occurs in the language component, there are various cognitive alterations (Dispaldro et al., 2013; Finneran, Francis, and Leonard, 2009; Guarnera, Commodari, and Peluso, 2013; Henry, Messer, and Nash, 2012) that limit social performance in children with this pathology (St Clair, Pickles, Durkin, and Conti-Ramsden, 2011). One of the linguistic difficulties demonstrated is phonological processing (Moav-Scheff, Yifat, and Banai, 2015), and one of the difficulties found at the cognitive level is the visual processing of attention (Dispaldro et al., 2013). Therefore, the present investigation analyzes the visual attention during word recognition tasks, when the stimuli present phonological differences, in children with specific language disorder and its controls, corroborating the causal models of cognitive and linguistic processing. To do this, cognitive and linguistic tests, as well as oculomotor recording tasks, were performed on 16 children, evidencing that both children with Tel and controls are slower at the time of image recognition when a phonological distractor is presented. However, unlike children with SLI in the presence of a phonological distractor of rhyme, there is no slowing down in the fixation to the objective stimulus. These results are analyzed in the light of current research.
