Resumen
Responses of four Amazon fishes (pirarucu, tambaqui, matrinxã and tamoatá) to capture, handling and crowling stress were used to validade the efficcacy of a portable meter in measuring blood glucose. Blood glucose was highly correlated with reference method in all the studied tamoatá. Blood glucose in pirarucu and matrinxã were lower than those obtained with a plasma enzymatics reference method. Reliability of both methods are high being greater in the reference method. The variation of a same sample of blood glucose in resting fish than in stressed fish. These findings indicate a potential role for portable glucose instrument in the field and hatchery facilities, but the result is species specific and should be validated for each species before use. 2005
