Resumen
Introduction: Walking on toes is a normal stage in the process gait maduration. However, when this pattern continues over time becomes a problem which alters the normal biomechanical functioning of the entire lower limb. The present study sought to determine if the kinematic profile of idiopathic toe walking in children is modified and normalized when the execution of the pattern with heel support is requested. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was carried out in which 25 children were analyzed, who underwent computerized analysis of gait between January 2015 and July 2017, inside “Movisys” movement analysis laboratory. Results: Some significant differences were found between the pattern in toes and the ones with heel support, in the evaluated joints. In the case of the ankle, there are differences both in the stance phase and in the swing phase (p = 0.000); while in the knee they presented in the initial contact (p = 0.024) and the load response (p = 0.004). Regarding the hip, no significant differences were found. Conclusions: No significant differences were found in the proportion of patients who managed to normalize before and after requesting the heel pattern, except for the ankle variables. The alterations affect the ankle mainly and to a lesser extent the knee, both being modifiable, although a normalization of 100% was not achieved. This could suggest the presence of an additional pathological condition to the orthopedic condition reported.
