Resumen
In this report Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Patrick Manning has rejected the Opposition Leader's offer to form a government of national unity. During a visit to Guyana, Namibia President Sam Nujoma made an appeal for closer ties between Africa and Latin America. CARICOM Secretary General Edwin Carrington comments on how feasible this suggestion may be. In Britain, a recently published book entitled "No longer invisible" examines the present conditions of Latin Americans of African descent and the relationship between Africans and Latin Americans. In Guyana, the commission of inquiry into the Omai cyanide wastes spill called its first high level witness. After Caribbean leaders were criticized for their failure to expound the major problems facing the region on the occasion of the UN's 50th Anniversary, CARICOM Secretary General Edwin Carrington defends their contributions. In Montserrat, the future of living with an active volcano has led to growing political concerns on the island. In cricket, on the first day of England's historic match in Saweto, President Nelson Mandela made a surprise visit. Jamaican-born fast-bowler Devon Malcolm spoke to Mr. Mandela on behalf of his English colleagues and Dr. Ali Bacher commented on sports in South Africa. In the final segment, Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur is appointed a member of the British Privy Council.
