Resumen
Pointe-a-Pierre located north of San Fernando, south of Claxton Bay and on coast of the Gulf of Paria is highlighted in this vintage photograph. The San Fernando Hill in the background here looks like a mound with a flattened top but by the end of the 1970s had a different shape and was about a third of its original size, due to heavy mining. This Pointe-a-Pierre area used to be noted for its thriving sugar estates. However, in 1913, an oil company called Trinidad Leaseholds Limited bought all the estate lands and a modest oil refinery and oil storage deposit were established. Pointe-a-Pierre grew to become one of the most vital refineries in the western hemisphere.
