O presente artigo faz um estudo sobre os fatores para o sucesso de empresas de base tecnológica oriundas de incubadoras de negócios. Analisamos as causas determinantes do sucesso dos empreendimentos incubados tanto da perspectiva da oferta de recursos contribuintes para o sucesso, como da perspectiva da demanda das novas empresas. Do lado da oferta, a pesquisa baseou-se na análise comparativa de cinco incubadoras de empresas que estão em funcionamento na região do Triângulo Mineiro e Alto Paranaíba, no Estado de Minas Gerais. Foram definidas quatro dimensões para essa análise: entidades-parceira da incubadora, localização, tipo de incubadora, ociosidade e equilíbrio econômico-financeiro. Verificou-se que as incubadoras de base tecnológica e multisetoriais apresentam taxas mais altas de sucesso. Pela perspectiva da demanda das novas empresas, nossa pesquisa os proprietários e gestores das empresas de firmas incubadas mostra que altos níveis de orientação para o mercado contribuem para o desempenho das empresas incubadas, em termos de conquista de clientes, faturamento e sobrevivência.
