Las secuencias terrígenas del Plioceno Superior-Pleistoceno "húmedo" de Cuba occidental

Abstract

Se estudian en detalle las secuencias terrígenas del Plioceno Superior- Pleistoceno "húmedo" del Occidente de Cuba. Este estudio se realiza fundamentalmente sobre la base de criterios litólogo-geomorfológicos. Se aceptan y aplican los criterios de Kartashov y sus colaboradores, acerca de la génesis y otras particularidades de estos depósitos. De esta manera, se consideran las transgresiones y regresiones marinas bajo el control glaciar, como las causantes de la acumulación de sedimentos y de la intemperización posterior. Sobre la base de esta fuerte intemperización en algunos depósitos es que se divide el Pleistoceno en "húmedo" y "seco". Se discuten otros criterios acerca de la génesis y edad de estas secuencias, emitidos por diferentes investigadores. Finalmente se ofrece un pequeño bosquejo de las posibilidades de utilización industrial de algunos de estos depósitos. The terrigenous sequences of the Upper Pliocene-Pleistocene "wet" of the West of Cuba are studied in detail. This study is carried out fundamentally on the basis of lithological-geomorphological criteria. The criteria of Kartashov and his collaborators are accepted and applied, regarding the genesis and other particularities of these deposits. In this way, marine transgressions and regressions under glacial control are considered, as the cause of sediment accumulation and subsequent weathering. On the basis of this strong weathering in some deposits is that the Pleistocene is divided into "wet" and "dry". Other criteria are discussed about the genesis and age of these sequences, issued by different researchers. Finally, a small outline of the possibilities of industrial use of some of these deposits is offered.
