El libro transfigurado

Abstract

El presente artículo reflexiona sobre el objeto libro, en torno a su materialidad, su funcionalidad y sus distintas transfiguraciones históricas. En una primera parte rastrea qué condiciones previas se necesitan para poder escribir, leer y crear libros. Posteriormente, realiza un breve repaso sobre la transición del libro manuscrito hacia el impreso, al tiempo que reflexiona sobre su materialidad y utilidad. Finalmente, explora cuál es el lugar y la forma de los libros en la llamada era digital y cuáles son las implicaciones de la coexistencia entre los libros impresos y los electrónicos.

This article discusses the book as an object considering its materiality, its functionality and its different historical transfigurations. The first part of this essay traces the preconditions needed to write, read, and create books. Subsequently, we will do a brief review of the transition from manuscript to printed book, while reflecting on their materiality and utility. Finally, we will explore the places and forms of books in the so-called digital era and which are the implications of the coexistence between print and electronic books.
