dc.description.abstract | Lichens are a non-timber forest resources used by various cultures around the world as food, dyes and medicines. The objective of this study was to determine the use and knowledge that the people of the region of El Salto, Pueblo Nuevo, Durango, have on the lichens and evaluate the efficiency of the lichen antibiotic in this region. 100 people were surveyed over 18 years in the community of El Salto, 7% recognizes to the lichens. 60% of respondents located lichens as part of its natual environment, liking them to the trees, with emphasis on oaks.12% reported some use as ornamental and medicinal primarily to the respiratory tract. In general, lichens are not important in knowledge and culture of the inhabitants, by not assign names vernacular or vulgar. Therefore it was evaluated the antibiotic activity of lichens extracts of the genera Ramalina spp, and Usnea spp Pseudevernia spp by the diffusion method sensidiscs with acetone extracts, aqueous and ethanol: water (60:40), against Streptococcus sp B0646, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC28213, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli B034, Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
