Resumen
Due to their abundance at the Bay of La Paz, B.C.S., México, the Saigassum species were selected to determine its standing crop in the Spring 1988. A statistical analysisfor a stratifield population was applied to estimate the standing crop; the analysis wasbased on the biomass values obtained as stratified variable as well as by the crea coveredby the Sargassum spp patches. Four strltum were found with the following figures ofbiomass: STRATA I;168-1132 g/0.25 m2, STRATA II; 113A-1923 g/0.25 m2; STRATA
III: 1924-2677 g/0.25 m2; y STRATA IV: 2678-4154 g/0.25 m2. The total harvested crop was estimated as 18,901 tonnes, with a 95% confidence interval ranging from 17,973 to 19,828 tonnes.
