Resumen
The present research shows an integral system of massive analysis of human retinas, which offers a pre-diagnosis on the base of clinical antecedents and personal information of the patients; the clinical antecedents of their relatives, and some basic measurements; from the result of the analyses of four color retina images and the incidence of the risk factors related to each one of the retina illnesses that will be analyzed. The pre-diagnosis is created after the analysis of the symptoms present in the retina images of the patient associated to any of the five retina illnesses that frequently cause blindness in human: glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, pigmentary retinosis and the age-related macular degeneration.
The system is divided into three main components: the first one works as a graphical interface in which is possible to introduce, so as delete, the patients into the system and also to record their personal information; the clinical antecedents of their relatives (anamnesis) and two retina images from each eye, one from optic papilla and other from the eye fundus. The second component of the system is an image analysis module which determines the normality or abnormality of the retina, and based on these results it can be analyzed (or not) for looking for the following symptoms: microaneurysms, exudates, hemorrhages, druses and spicules related to the five before mentioned illnesses. Finally, the third component is an expert system that uses the information obtained from the patient and from the analyses to emit the pre-diagnosis related to each of the five diseases that are prone to blindness.
The pre-diagnosis given automatically, guarantied by an ophthalmologist, belongs to one of the three following categories: the retinas are healthy, the patient must visit the ophthalmologist once every six months, or the patient must visit the ophthalmologist immediately. The system will be able to acquire the information and the images coming from a local network or from any remote location connected to Internet. It is calculated that everyday can be analyzed, at deferred time, the retinas of 400 patients and offer the correspondent pre-diagnose.
