Resumen
A mathematical model was developed in order to simulate and study the
behavior of two slug flows converging in a confluence of two pipelines. The
model is divided in two parts; the first one analyss the factors affecting the
pressure drop due to the two flow interaction and the second one determines
the pressure drop due to the slug flow presence in the three sections.
Additionally it is presented the slug flow characterization for the three sections
of the pipe in function of the flow conditions, (USG and USL), and the diameters of
the pipes. For this purpose an algorithm in MATLAB was developed. A test
matrix was fixed in terms of the superficial velocities and with the help of the
Mandhane flow pattern map. The interaction of the two flows in the transport
lines was simulated using the mathematical model, which is formed by the
relations that characterize the slug flow and the models proposed by Vazsonyi
and Gardel for the convergence loss coefficients calculation. Within the
simulation the geometrical parameters as diameter of the sections and the
incidence angles were considered.
The results obtained are the pressure drop coefficients in the confluence at
different geometrical configurations and flow conditions, the pressure drop in
the confluence, and the flow behavior after the interaction. The trend of the
typical parameters and pressure drop both in the sections and in the confluence
are as the ones we have attended.
Finally we have a mathematical model that explains what happen when two
slug flows interact in a confluence of two pipes that can be applied to the design
of the transport networks and collection of two phase flows.
