Resumen
In this work, the problematic of leachate treatment obtained of landfill “Bordo Poniente Fase I” was studied. The leachates are wastes that have pollution potential for superficial aquatic ecosystems and groundwater ecosystems, and can produce negative impact on local flora and fauna. Different leachate treatment systems exists, and in order which to decide purification method has to be chosen choosing is necessary to know some factors such climatic, type of waste, dampness, permanency time of wastes in the landfill and others. In the present work, the Fenton treatment (physicochemical oxidation) was applied, this process will be the key to continue with a subsequent biological treatment. The organic recalcitrant compounds present in the leachate were determined used UV-VIS spectrophotometer, before and after of the Fenton process application. With the Fenton treatment, removal of 92% COD was obtained an increment of the biodegradability up to 80%, also pollutants such nitrogen and phosphorous were removed (74% and 100% respectively). After the Fenton treatment, the leachate oxidized chemically was submitted to a biological treatment (for activated sludges). The inoculum concentration was of 10%; in these conditions approximately 50% of DQO were removed
