Resumen
The loss of biomass caused by the grasshopper Melanoplus lakinus (Scudder) was
assessed in arbosufrutescent medium grassland composed of Chloris virgata Sw. and Rynchelytrum repens (Willd.) C.E. Hubb., associated with Bouteloua gracilis (Willd. ex Kunth) Lag. ex Griffiths and B. curtipendula (Michx.) Torr. The study area was Castillo Najera, Durango, Mexico. Three densities ofgrasshopper (7, 14 and 28 insects/rn") were evaluated. The consumption of biomass by M . lakinus was 30-37% relativetoacontrol;thediet wascomposed of55% naturalherbal vegetation, and 45% grasses, withapreferencefor B. curtipendula.
