Resumen
One of the complications common in areas of uncontrolled hypertensive emergency is therefore used as antihypertensive oral captopril, but given the high demand and lack of resources in hospitals is necessary to study alternative medicines including those that provide better benefits and magnesium sulfate, providing ionic transport by modulating calcium channels, the permeability of the cell membrane and neuromuscular excitability, hypotensive effect by vasodilation, increased vasorelaxation and blood flow in vascular beds . The purpose of this study was to determine whether the effect of magnesium sulfate parenterally injecting equal to or better than that of captopril in cases of uncontrolled hypertension. We included 64 patients admitted to the emergency department with predetermined criteria to initial mean arterial pressure greater than or equal to 110 mmHg, were randomly formed two groups, the A was administered 50 mg of captopril, and Group B 1.5 g magnesium sulfate parenterally. In both groups, blood pressure recording them serially. The average of the results was analyzed by Student's t technique and ANOVA measurements showed no significant difference at any point in time, so that the administration of intravenous magnesium sulfate is as effective as captopril for reducing blood pressure, which is an alternative for the management of uncontrolled hypertension
