Resumen
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether intake of Lactobacillus casei Shirota cause any effect on the function of the digestive tract of hospitalized patients with hip fractures, whereas the probiotic bacteria is capable of going live to the intestines to help maintain the balance of intestinal flora.
A more efficient way to evaluate the effect of Lactobacillus casei Shirota was to make a comparative study between two groups, one experimental and one control.
Both the investigator and th patients in both groups were anaware of the drink were provided.
In the experimental group had on average a higher number of evacuations was 11.83 (±6.033) compared to the control group mean was 4.83 (± 2.8) (p ≤ 0.05).
The consistency of bowel movements in rates was interpreted as the nominal rate was variable.
This is the first study on the effect of Lactobacillus casei Shirota in patients hospitalized with hip fracture. The results indicated that intake of Lactobacillus casei Shirota may help improve stool frecuency and consistency, to prevent the patient from taking lactulose and antidiarrheals.
