Resumen
Background: Obesity in Mexico constitutes a public health problem of enormous magnitude, standing as the starting point in the origin, development and prevalence of numerous chronic and degenerative diseases. Therefore, it is of crucial importance to find out solutions to treat it opportunately and prevent its development and complications. Currently there are numerous therapeutic resources available from either conventional medicine or the so called complementary medicine, which have demostred its efficacy. Acupuncture and Electoacupuncture have been widely applied in clinical practice worldwide, demonstrating its efficacy in the integral management of obesity.
Objective: The objective of this study is to compare the efficacy of dense-disperse frequency against low frequency electroacupuncture for weight and abdominal perimeter reduction in obese women. Method: Fourty obese women were selected, comforming two groups randomly, group A were treated with dense-disperse frequency and group B with low frequency, during 10 sessions. Results: As for weight reduction, it was observed a 2.4 % decrease for group A and 2.21% for group B, not showing a significant difference (p>0.05). For abdominal perimeter, a 6.07 % and 5.33% respectively, with no significant difference (p>0.05). Conclusion: Electro acupuncture is effective in the integral management of obesity, but there is no difference in the efficacy of the frequencies studied.
