Resumen
Over many years, decades and even could talk about almost a full century, the use of Railway Infrastructure in Mexico City, and the rest of the country, was something almost necessarily mandatory, not only for transporting people and general cargo, was the medium that could link cities and regions so remote that otherwise was unthinkable to achieve a connection between them. The importance given to the railroad people like Porfirio Diaz, his leading participation in major national events as the Revolution of the early twentieth century, or the oil expropriation that occurred in the early 30's, made this a indispensable means in daily life of Mexicans.
Over the years the railroad ceased to be such an important part in the core structure of transport in the country,
the little interest this medium received, mismanagement and bad use of technology not meeting the requirements of users, resulted in almost no investment of governments in new railway lines, and the almost non-existent maintenance for their existing low productivity.
These resources were channeled into other areas as were the roads and major highways, showing that the railroad had ceased to be the largest land transportation in the country. When Over the decades since the late twentieth century, Mexico was in the process of privatization of the railway throughout the length and breadth
of the country, in order to rescue the railway lines and used again the great potential of these, since they have already been used successfully before and bonding large development centers throughout the country.
In Mexico City railway lines almost completely disappeared, train stations gave way to other activities, and in general was almost entirely banished from this place the railroad, although in recent years in public transport use again laying of some existing roads to circulate the first Metro iron in the east of the city from Pantitlán to La Paz in Mexico State, while south of the city is in operation long line Light Rail from Tasqueña to Xochimilco, and the last great news that had been the creation of suburban train which again put on the map to the rail network in Mexico City and its metropolitan area.
With this background, this paper shows the change experienced by the Railway Infrastructure in Mexico City and its metropolitan area, the different stages that have had throughout history, characteristics and importance acquired and subsequently lost as an innovative and modern land transport, privatization and the recent resurgence of this medium as a new alternative to solve the current problems of transport in the city.
