Resumen
The Metropolitan Area of Mexican Valley (MVMA) has a series of climatic and
physiographic characteristics that contribute adversely to the air pollution in recent
years, ozone and particulate matter are pollutants that several times a year beyond
its values standard. The environmental authorities as well as monitoring the
concentrations of air pollutants, develop Emission Inventories, in order to know the
source of air pollution and implement mitigation measures. Currently not evaluated
any emissions from the construction in these documents.
While construction is considered as a major employment generating activities is
also important consumer of natural resources and therefore a significant source of
pollutants. This paper presents three scenarios for assessing emissions from the
construction of roads and determine which is a key category that should be
included in Emissions Inventories, primarily by the emission of particulates and
volatile organic compounds.
The first stage was structured with emissions from real data of road-Río de los
Remedios and fifteen more roads, calculated with a model for estimating
emissions. The second stage includes the Rio de los Remedios emissions, six
roads using emission factors and nine roads calculated using a model. Finally, the
third stage, are Río de los Remedios emissions and the remaining fifteen roads,
estimated using emission factors.
It paper raises some methodologies for estimating emissions per step or
construction activity, which can be taken by the authorities in environmental
matters at any level of government. In general, methodologies consider the
following issues: loading and unloading, fugitive by wind erosion, paved and
unpaved roads, demolition, construction equipment, use of paints, asphalt and fuel.
