Resumen
This monograph aims to investigate the effects of the use of the orthose of the upper limb on the amplitude of movement and functional abilities in children seen for evaluation and preparation of this device in the Outpatient Occupational Therapy HUSM. For this study it was performed a quantitative research with documentary analysis on six patients’ records age between 6 months and 12 years that containing the two evaluations that the service uses to manufacture the device, which are the Inventory Pediatric Evaluation of Disability (PEDI) and goniometry. In this study it was used only part I of the PEDI with its three function areas: self-care, mobility and social function. The goniometry was used to check the amplitude of movement of joints. The two protocols were applied before and after the use of orthose. The data were processed and normality was verified by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. For comparison among quantitative variables it was used the Wilcoxon test. The significance level for all tests was 5 %. The results found were significant in self-care, mobility and extension of the limbs (p<0, 005) after the use of the orthose. In conclusion the orthose has proven to be effective in the treatment of children with motor disorders evaluated in this study by the correlation between the amplitude of movement obtained by Goniometry and the functional abilities of the PEDI. The results of this study suggest that the orthose can act as a supporting in the rehabilitation of the patients of the age group mentioned.
