O jogo de xadrez como ferramenta pedagógica no ensino e aprendizagem de crianças e adolescentes de uma escola de Santa Maria/RS

This paper aims to capture the relevance of the insertion of chess lessons in the teaching and learning process of children and adolescents of an indigenous school in Santa Maria / RS. In order to do so, we performed tests that measure concentrated attention and ability to solve problems (Concentrated Attention Test: vectors), (Tower of London) before and after the students' participation in an initiation project to the game of Chess. The average scores obtained by the students in the Concentrated Attention and Tower of London tests, before and after being started in the game of chess, were evaluated through the paired t-test for comparison of two means. The results of this statistic pointed to a significant difference in students' scores after participating in chess classes. In this way, the positive influence of the chess game as a pedagogical tool in the teaching and learning process is confirmed, once, on average, the students have proven to have made advances in the cognitive field after the chess lessons.
