Resumen
This study aimed to compose a general review about the biological homeostasis of horses,
given the fluid and electrolyte balance and acid-base required for cellular functions and,
consequently, to preserve their soundness and longevity. They were first addressed the
biochemical principles that underlie the physiology acid-base body fluids and their regulatory
mechanisms, the body water distribution and the factors that control the main electrolytes that
make up the fluids and their regulatory processes, as well as evaluation indicators state-basic
acid from the body. It was later drafted one literature review article where the possible
changes in electrolyte and acid-base balance of the horses were discussed.
