One of the possibilities of transforming the world, and also the human relations, is
through research. However, in order to create communication and reflection on the
investigated situation, it is necessary to have a satisfactory relationship between the researcher
and his object of study. This research aims to investigate the professional reality of the
associated archivists of the Associação do Rio Grande do Sul (AARS), as well as making a
data research relating to the creation of AARS, to identify the institutions where the archivists
were introduced in the job market and, also, to investigate and to analyze their involvement
according to the activities proposed by the AARS. The survey is classified as descriptive with
a qualitative-quantitative approach. In this sample, members of the AARS got involved, in a
total of 50 archivists - 84% of them are women and 16% are men. To obtain the data, it was
applied a questionnaire to the associated archivists and made interviews with the President of
the Association, in order to meet the members and the history of AARS. According to the
questionnaire, it was verified that 82% of the archivists were working in public institutions
and the form of entrance was by a public examination, 28% have incomes from 03 to 05
minimum wages, 88% perform archival functions. This paper consists of an introduction,
theoretical referential of associations; a brief history of the AARS, the archivist and his
professional training, methodology, analysis of the results and final considerations.
