Abstract

In order to attend to the current energetic demand growth in our country and in order to obtain greater availability of power generation, is essential the utilization of small hydro-electric power plants (in Portuguese, PCH), which has as one of its objectivs to complementary power generation. This plants have an important characteristic comprising minimizing environmental impacts, and have implementation period and lower investment compared the hydropower plants. This study seeks to demonstrate how are considered the issues of small hydro-electric power plants, which materials used in their manufacture and their care regarding their quality, and present the main types of PCH and its features, as well as the maintenance and operation, environmental impacts, economic aspects and energetic efficiency.
