The Federal Highway Police was created in 1928, during the administration of Washington Luiz, being denominated as “Road Police”, and they have been consolidated in he scenery of the Brazilian Public Security. With activities in the ongoing monitoring of raffic on federal highways, the FHP seeks to evolve along with the brazilian society and tries o act more forceful in fighting criminality, this demand has been increasing over the years. This change of focus reflects a permanent anxiousness in their effective, regarding the presentation of a qualified service. It will be possible to actuate with the same efficiency in he traffic inspection and also against the criminality. The Federal Highway Police was presented through a bibliographic revision. Their attributions, structure and future projects, he lacks and the difficulties to the realization of an efficient service and also the criticism that suffer in the external and internal setting. Moreover, making use of a bibliographic research based in articles, final papers, newspapers, magazines and internet, where the services ealized by the FHP were verified and also the projects and proposals which affect directly heir performances, it was verified that there is the possibility to act in both ways, which are he traffic inspection as well as the combat against criminality and still, to offer to the Brazilian society a good quality service.
