Resumen
Penetrating thoracic wounds caused by animal bites are common in dogs and are characterized by extensive trauma and adjacent soft tissue devitalization. The treatment prioritizes complete debridement of these tissues and pleural space integrity repair. When the local musculature is insufficient for the reconstruction, muscle flaps can be taken to repair the thoracic defect. The present report aim is to demonstrate an alternative to the thoracic wall defect repair in a dog using unipediculated flap of rectus abdominis muscle, reconstructive technique not yet described in veterinary literature, according to these authors knowledge. The flap of rectus abdominis muscle has shown to be a useful alternative for the repair of extensive thoracic wall lesion in dogs.
