Resumen
The Information technology (IT) is an important tool that when combined with organizations management strategies allows to boost the treatment of information, an intangible, invaluable good. Daily routine activities produce countless records that are collected and treated, transformed into information that can reveal new insights and opportunities for organizations. The people identification is one of these activities, which if is associated with IT's use can produce information for application in computer systems or even allow improvements in their processes. Inside this context, is included the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, which has evolved significantly in past years. The purpose of this work is approach the operation of such technology and understands how it can be used within organizations to identify people. To demonstrate the potential and operation of this technology was developed a set of computer systems (hardware and software) using an open platform for prototyping and a set of electronic components. The developed prototype performs the read of an RFID tag (without contact) verifying if the holder is an authorized user, by checking into a database, and triggers a device (e.g. a lock). From the results of this work is possible to know the necessary set of requirements to deploy an RFID technology with a focus on people identification.
