The article reports on the experience with the action continuing education conducted by multidisciplinary integrated residence (RMI) with professionals from the Psychiatric Emergency Room of a hospital university education in order to foster critical thinking about the role of reflective tertiary line mental health care. We used a banner with theoretical content and a writing instrument with triggering the following question: what is the role of the psychiatric emergency room in the line of mental health care? The discussions took place in the everyday practical field of health professionals in the Emergency Psychiatric individual and collective actions within one month. Participated in the activity eight professionals who have expressed their views in writing on the document of continuing education, as well as three moments described by researchers proposing the team discussion of shifts in trade between shifts. The discussions and results converge to: legislation and health devices in perspective line mental health care; everyday health professionals in the psychiatric emergency room. We conclude that continuing health education seeks ways to accomplish the principles of the Unified Health System (SUS) enables the planning of health actions in perspective line mental health care.
