Resumen
This monograph discusses the role of librarians in functions related to archival
management in the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology, and the
relationship of these cases to national archival public policy and interdisciplinarity
between Archiving and Librarianship. This is an exploratory research, and methods
employed as a literature search and document research. The scientific literature
indicates scientific technical dimension as one of the facets of archival policy.
Decisions to establish codes and temporality tables are political decisions, but its
implementation depends on technical knowledge. Despite having an area of
common knowledge, the Librarianship and Archiving have particular techniques, and
thus a librarian is unable to perform duties inherent to the field of Archiving. The
literature showed the slow advance of national archival public policy, and it indicates
a lack of skilled labor as one of the reasons to assign the archival management to
librarians. However, the Law on Access to Information and the need to improve public
management in response to the yearning of society tends to prompt improvement in
the archival management at Institutions. The research infers the need to include the
requirement of archivists in Higher Education Institutions of the Federal Schools; this
is another step in the gradual process of archival policy of Brazil.
