Resumen
The inspiratory muscle training (IMT) has demonstrated positive effects on
increasing the strength and performance of the ventilatory muscles is reflected in
improved performance in the development of physical activity. The purpose of this
study was to investigate the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) to improve
function and performance of respiratory muscles, the perceived effort (RPE) as well as
increased endurance capacity. Study participants were eight individuals with an average
of 40 years, of both sexes, sedentary, 6 women and 2 men. After 24 sessions of physical
activity associated with IMT or not, held three times a week, it was observed by
evaluating the maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP) and maximal expiratory pressure
(MEP), an improvement in inspiratory and expiratory muscle strength, but have not
found significant changes in physiological traits of performance. These results prove
that the TMI is able to provide favorable changes in inspiratory muscle strength in
sedentary individuals, but no significant effect on endurance capacity of these
individuals.
