Currently, there is a change in social organizations in rural areas of Brazil, with the emergence of new activities, called the multifunctionality of rural areas, enabling the inclusion of agricultural and non agricultural activities that create and recreate products and services. This paper aims spatialize information georeferenced data that characterize the multifunctionality of rural areas in the district of Arroio Grande, Santa Maria / RS. The methodology used was based on measured types of information about the production systems of family farming in the district, captured through structured interviews and analysis of rural non-agricultural occupations evidenced by direct observation and literature review. It is concluded that GIS techniques enable a new condition for storage and manipulation of spatial data and socioeconomic where, through the diagnosis of types of occupations and agricultural and rural non-farm, it was possible the resolution of thematic maps, identifying the different functions of rural and agricultural and non agricultural activities present in the district.
