dc.description.abstractThis study focused on the relationship between the media and the formation of the Otaku Group, term used in Brazil to describe fans of Japanese pop culture. Thus, in order to understand how the media operates in the formation of new sociability, especially the Otaku Group; the role it assumes the identity formations, understand the relationship between technological advances and globalization process in group formation and; establish a description of the otaku lifestyle. To this end, the methodological approach consists of triangulation three steps: literature search, research on media consumption and applied research with the Otaku Group. In this process, we performed a historical-media survey, correlating it with the forms of sociability and derived their involvement in identity formation. As for this employed the following research techniques: participant observation with the group under study, questionnaires, conducting focus groups and interviews.
