dc.description.abstractPublic hospitals in Brazil live in chaos regarding hospital beds, with huge queues waiting for a bed, with overcrowding it ends up being seen as a low organizational performance. This article aims to demonstrate the reality of Brazilian public health associated with overcrowding of public hospitals and the health care crisis that demand and are responsible for public services. Furthermore, from the analysis of this condition, the paper proposes the creation of management actions to reduce overcrowding and contribute to the improvement of quality of life of citizens. For a better understanding of the causes of hospital overcrowding, we used the methodology of literature searches in articles, books and scientific journals. Management measures presented in the article seeks to reduce overcrowding, using strategies that prioritize immediate care with the management of beds in patient flow, balancing the criteria of care, thereby improving organizational performance of hospitals and having a better quality of services.
